Species text

The species is widely distributed in Wales and the Pennine region of northern England, scattered in Scotland.

Habitat and ecology
Found in a variety of habitats including moss, grasses, woodland litter and under stones. Occasionally recorded on mountains where it has been taken at 975 m. Locket & Millidge (1953) give the adult period as autumn and winter, but adults are also to be found throughout the summer.

Recorded from 24 hectads since 1992, and showing an apparent decline of two-thirds in the number of hectads with spider records both before and after that date. However, there are records for 68 hectads since 1980 and since the two key areas of the Pennines and upland Wales are known to be poorly recorded recently, such a large decline is doubtful. Nevertheless, a Watching Brief should be kept on this species.

The ecological requirements of this species are poorly known and it is not possible to determine any threats at present.

Management and conservation
No recommendations at present.
