Distribution
O. agrestis is widespread but patchily distributed in Britain. It is widespread in north-western and central Europe.

Habitat and ecology
Similar to O. gibbosus this species is associated with wet habitats and may be found hunting over the surface for its prey. In Essex it is rare and associated with flood debris of streams (D. Carr, pers. comm.). Adults of both sexes have been recorded in most months of the year, mostly in the summer.

Status
Local. The least frequently encountered species in the genus, most often found near upland rivers and in the north. Probably a frequently misidentified spider, especially from atypical habitats.
