Species text

Distribution
The species has been recorded from North Wales, the Lake District and Scotland. It is a boreo-alpine species in Europe.

Habitat and ecology
T. aestivus occurs under stones on mountains above 600 m. Adults of both sexes are found from May to August.

Status
The spider is local and not common on high mountains. All recent records are from Scotland, where it is widespread, except one in N. Wales.

Threats
At some sites, recreational development (including for skiing) could represent a threat. In the longer term, global warming as a result of climate change represents a threat to this and other montane species in Britain. The ecology of this species requires further research to determine what threats it faces at present.

Management and conservation
Protect montane sites from excessive recreational development.
