Species text

Distribution
The species is widely distributed in Britain but absent from large areas and generally very scattered. However the species may be much more restricted than the distribution map suggests, with many records based on females the result of misidentifications. It is widespread in north-western and central Europe.

Habitat and ecology
T. spinipalpis has a preference for damp places, such as Sphagnum bogs, wet heathland, damp meadows, fens or marshland. Adults have been collected in April, May and June.

Status
There may have been a long-term decline in this species.

Threats
Some of the recorded decline in this species is probably attributable to drainage of wetlands for agriculture, forestry and building.

Management and conservation
Protect wetlands from drainage and conversion to other land uses. Ensure adequate water supplies to wetlands.
