Summary: Former military airbase. Returned to Common Land in 2000. Owned by West Berks Council, now managed by BBOWT. It consists of a plateau area with short grass and heather. On the sides there is wet woodland, mainly scrub but some ancient woodland.

Description: Plateau: Heathland, gorse, grazed grass/gravel areas. Slopes: Deciduous woodland, both mature and scrub. There are large areas of shallow pools and exposed graved. Access is restricted in nesting season for ground-nesting birds.

Reason for interest: Lowland Heath. Ancient woodland. Lakeside vegetation.
