Summary: Padworth Common consists of a North and South Common separated by a main road. The South Common is a flat wet heath, whilst the North Common is a dry heath with a deep alder gulley.
Description: South Commmon: Mixed Calluna and Molinia heath, with invasive birch and pine. Very wet in winter. North Common: Areas of Calluna, Pteridium and Deschampsia heath. There is deep gulley dominated by alder. The upper gulley sides are mixed deciduous woodland.
Reason for interest: Habitat diversity.
