740m to 1309m
The species is restricted to the Highlands of Scotland. It is a boreal species, which is widespread in the arctic.
Habitat and ecology
H. holmgreni occurs among short heather and grass, and under stones, on mountains, mainly above 900 m, but down to 500 m in the far north. Adults are found from May to September.
The spider is common in some localities, but rather local.
In some areas recreational pressure associated with skiing may be a threat but in the longer term, climate change may adversely affect this, together with other arctic-alpine species.
Management and conservation
Ensure that mountain tops where the species occurs are protected from excessive trampling.
