Species text

Distribution
The species is restricted to Wales, northern England, and Scotland. It is widespread in northern Europe, especially in the arctic.

Habitat and ecology
The species occurs among moss or grass at the edge of open water, mostly on fairly high ground, except in the far north and west where it may occur at sea-level, e.g. on saltmarsh on Mull. It may be adult for most of the year.

Status
Recorded from 11 hectads since 1992, but showing an apparent decline of over 50% in hectads with spider records both before and after that date (15 to 7). However, there are relatively few arachnologists recording in its range, and it may be frequent where it occurs. It may possibly become more widespread further north, although more data are required.

Threats
In the short-term, no major threats are perceived but in the future climate-change may threaten the survival of this arctic-alpine species.
