DistributionThe species is restricted to England and Wales, where it is widespread on sand dunes. It is widespread in north-western and central Europe as far north as Denmark.
Habitat and ecology
M. nivoyi occurs mainly on coastal sand dunes among marram, occasionally in inland marshes, and once on dry burnt heathland at Ashdown Forest (Sussex). The spider is long and thin, and runs along marram stems. Males have been found in April, August and September and females most of the year.
Status
The spider is local and never particularly common.
Threats
Possibly public pressure and holiday development at some sites.
Management and conservation
Control erosion of sand dunes.
