DistributionApart from one old record from Dorset, this is a mainly a northern species in Britain, recorded in Wales, northern England and Scotland. It is widespread in northern and central Europe.
Habitat and ecology
Z. nemoralis occurs among moss and heather in or near woods. Adults are found from May to September.
Status
The spider is apparently very local, and has apparently declined significantly by more than 50% in the last 20 years.
Threats
The loss of semi-natural woodland to intensive forestry, and loss of ground-cover.
Management and conservation
Maintain moss and ground-cover in woodland.
