The Recording Scheme would require confirmation in the majority of cases, e.g. specimen having been checked by the appropriate Area Organiser or an acknowledged expert.
Notes |
---|
The epigyne of female Pocadicnemis pumila sens. str. is variable and may be confused with Pocadicnemis juncea. P. pumila is very rare in the south-east, and all records away from damp heathland or boulder clay woodlands in this region should be treated with extreme caution and as unreliable unless voucher material has been confirmed by an expert or supported by males. |

Males and females may present different identification difficulty in spiders. These identification ratings are based on the most difficult identification. New species may become recognised or become part of the British fauna e.g. from Europe, so identification should be made with the awareness that this is a possibility and that confirmation may be needed in the form of a voucher specimen.
